Life as we know it.
Mary Steenburgh
As some serious events unfold around us, we feel like it’s time to think about what we have seen, what has changed in our world, and how we have been living our lives.
We have made quite a few adjustments recently. Our girls are growing up to be creative and intelligent people, and we are wondering where the next phase of life will bring them. So many possibilities!
Josh is operating Steenburgh Auctioneers and Appraisers, his family auction business, so his dad, Archie, can spend time singing opera on his tractor and dancing with Martha. You can find them taking walks to Wilmot Brook and avoiding porcupines with their mischievous golden retrievers.
After a year or two working as an independent freelance designer and having some time to think, I found that what I missed most about my position as a designer is collaborating. So, I have made a surprising career change. I now collaborate with a group of ten-year-olds every day as a fourth-grade teacher at our local school in Haverhill, New Hampshire. I am proud to be working to support our community and find my new role to be extremely challenging and immensely rewarding. Working with an inspiring team of teachers to create a distance learning environment for our students will be another new experience.
Josh continues to support the community as well as the Woodsville High School Ski Team coach. It’s a small team with a big personality and an unconventional leader. This is the perfect way for Josh to spend the winter months in the snow at Cannon Mountain and to sneak in some time with our girls. The skiing gene is strong in this clan.
The youngest member of the family is our dear Sable, an energetic and loving black lab. She leaps stone walls, has an insatiable wish to play with other dogs, and won’t walk down the stairs by herself. She has infused our world with joy and healing during some uncertain times.
Life as we know it has been so demanding that we don’t often stop and look around. We are deeply thankful for our families, grateful to have amazing friends, appreciative of our customers, contented by the nature and beauty around us, and do not take good health for granted. When difficult circumstances arise, we face them together looking forward to our next adventures.
